Sergeant Air Gunner Keith Pratt Gemmel was born on August 6, 1924 at Markdale, Ontario and died on July 3, 1943, at the age of 19. He was in the Royal Canadian Air Force and was with the #19 Operational Training Unit on active duty when his Whitley aircraft #AL877 crashed during a training flight, seven miles south west of Solwinnie, Scotland.

Sergeant Air Gunner Gemmel is buried in the Kinloss Abbey Burial Ground, at Morayshire, Scotland. He and his father are pictured in the MARKDALE: CROSSROADS OF GREY book. His parents were Kenneth Shaw Gemmel and Margaret Olive Gemmel. He was in highschool at Markdale until 1940, and had some experience on a steamship as a steward in 1941, as well as some experience that year as a Wireman. He was also a Private with the 2nd Battalion of the Grey & Simcoe Foresters reserve when he enlisted in 1942. He received his Air Gunner’s badge on April 26, 1943.

His service number was R/180825.
